For the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, that means an “entirely new interaction,” and a “whole new dimension” to the way users experience the phone with “3D Touch.” Like the Apple Watch and the MacBook trackpad, with 3D Touch the user interface interacts with pressure-based input. The iPhones now feature “peek” and “pop” features, which will let users peek into conversations in the Messages thread, and then pop into the full conversation when they press a bit harder.
With the new feature, app icons on the Home screen can also offer quick new features based on the pressure applied on the display. With Maps, users can even pinpoint their location without actually digging into the app completely.
Apple is about to release the iOS 9 GM today. If you want to use the iOS 9 & WatchOS 2 right now on your iPhone then you can do it by registering your iPhone udid to Apple Developer Account, click here to register your iPhone/iPad/iPod/AppleWatch to Apple Developer Account.
The peek feature has a ton of applications, as Apple demonstrated on stage. That includes being able to look at your calendar based on a time or date included in a message. A flight number with peek means just pressing a bit on the number and a pop-up will show the flight’s details.
Using 3D Touch on the Camera app icon actually pops up an option to take a quick selfie, or launch the camera or video.
