Apple today unveiled the Apple TV 4, providing a much needed refresh to its media player. First unveiled as a prototype iTV device during Apple’s “It’s Showtime” event in September 2006, the Apple TV first went on sale in Q1 2007. In the intervening years, Apple has released three revisions of the media player and has sold 25 million Apple TV units in that time. Read on to find out what Apple has in store for the fourth version of its media set top box. Apple is about to release the iOS 9 GM today. If you want to use the iOS 9 & WatchOS 2 right now on your iPhone then you can do it by registering your iPhone udid to Apple Developer Account, click here to register your iPhone/iPad/iPod/AppleWatch to Apple Developer Account.

The new Apple TV offers a revolutionary remote with glass touch surface, Siri support and buttons for the menu, display, play/pause and volume. Features include a new user interface, animated video screen savers shot exclusively for Apple TV, and universal search across apps and services. Similar to the existing Apple TV3, the new Apple TV includes support for services such as iTunes, Apple Music, Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Showtime, and even more services which will be added over time.

Siri plays a big part in the Apple TV, allowing you to search for content, find actors in movies, turn on captioning and even control playback. Siri provides an intelligent search allowing you filter a search just by saying “Find Bond movies with Sean Connery.” It can even pull in information not related to the movie that is playing, allowing you to ask for the current weather while keeping the movie in the background.

The Apple TV will be powered by tvOS with a developer toolkit that brings native apps to the platform. Apps will run the gamut from media apps like Netflix to fitness apps, comic book apps, travel apps like AirBNB and, of course, games.
