Apple releases new iPod touch with A8 processor is clocked at 1.10GHz, 1GB of RAM and Bluetooth 4.1

Apple officially introduced a refresh to its iPod lineup. That includes new colors for the nano and shuffle, and a beefier upgrade for the iPod touch. As we said in our last post that apple will be releasing new iPod this week so they did. iPod are iPods, doesn’t matter even if you have iPhone there will always be demand for iPods. I remember about my old iPod touch 3g & 4g’s now.. those were fun.

TechCrunch was able to procure some for testing, and went ahead and placed an iPod touch through some benchmarking motions. The result shows what many would expect at face value: the iPod touch, despite running an A8 processor, is indeed underclocked at 1.10GHz per core, compared to the iPhone 6’s A8 processor, which is clocked at 1.39GHz per core. That’s presumed to be due to the battery constraints that Apple had to work with.

As far as the Geekbench 3 score goes, the report shows a 1379 score on the single-core test, and a 2440 multi-core test. That’s right out of the box, and in the most “idle state” that could be achieved. When we compare those scores to the A5-equipped iPod touch (215/410), the sixth-generation iPod touch is six times faster.

A few of other things to note: the new iPod touch is running iOS 8.4 out of the box, which means Apple Music will work right out of the gate. Also, the new iPod touch boasts 1GB of RAM. The new iPod touch also has something noteworthy in that it features Bluetooth 4.1, which is currently not available in other iOS devices. Bluetooth 4.1 offers less interference with LTE bands, improved power management, faster data transfer and is supposed to be more reliable.

The new iPod touch starts at $199 for the 16GB model. It is available from Apple Online store. It comes with iOS 8.4 that means you can jailbreak the new iPod touch 6G. You can also update to iOS 9 on the new iPod touch / iPhone / iPads by registering the udid to Apple Developer Account. Click here to register your device for iOS 9 beta.
