Apple will Change the Fonts style in iOS 9 and OS X 10.12

We are seeing the same front in iPhone since it’s birth. Time for a new fresh look, Apple is working on new front designs, Steve Jobs always believed in Fronts & Design, even i do as well. The font on iOS, which can be seen from the iPhone, to the iPad and down to the iPod touch, will be getting a refresh with iOS 9. Mac‘s upcoming OS X 10.11 update will also be getting the change.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple plans on refreshing iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 with a new font. New for those platforms, anyway. The report indicates that iOS 9, which is codenamed “Monarch,” and OS 10.11, codenamed “Gala,” will be getting a new font across the board to help liven up the aesthetics a bit. That font will be the Apple-designed San Francisco typeface, which can be seen right now on the Apple Watch.

San Francisco will be replacing Helvetica Nue, which Apple introduced to iOS back in 2013 with iOS 7, and brought to the Mac just last year with Yosemite.

Apple’s San Francisco font is about legibility, as the font was first brought to the world’s attention on the smaller display of the Apple Watch. Now, though, Apple plans on bringing the font to larger screens, and the new font should make its debut for iOS and Mac at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, which is scheduled for the beginning of June.

The report also indicates that the new font is meant to give iOS and OS X a new look, without having to change much of the overall aesthetics at the same time. Indeed, a new font would give the software a slightly refreshed look, all without having to revamp everything around it. This is meant to make sure that iOS and OS X don’t become stale, according to the unnamed sources. On the flip-side of the coin, though, the report indicates that some engineers have suggested the new font doesn’t look all that great on non-Retina displays, so there could still be some backlash from certain device owners if Apple does make the switch.

For those testing the iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 pre-release builds, the report says the new font began appearing on the platforms in late March. It’s expected that Apple will nudge some developers to redesign their apps to better suit the new font.

As it stands right now, iOS 9 is looking to be a pretty straightforward update, in terms of features and upgrades. We’ve previously heard that Apple will be focusing on speed and enhancements behind the scenes for the latest iteration of iOS, with a huge focus on stability improvements across the board with optimization improvements to boot. However, most recently, it has also been rumored that Apple will be making some changes to Siri, the company’s onboard digital personal assistant, including a makeover to put the iOS version more in line with the Watch OS option currently on the Apple Watch.

What do you think of this decision? Are you ready for a new font?
