Some OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 users suffering from issues with YouTube video playback in Safari [Update]

Written by
On November 17, Apple released the public version of OS X Yosemite 10.10.2, which was meant to work out some kinks, as well as other things.

Unfortunately for some users, the update has left a lot to be desired in the YouTube video playback category. According to several different user reports published on not only Apple’s Support Forums but also Google’s own product forums, many users running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 are experiencing issues with YouTube video playback. According to these individuals, YouTube videos often fail on a black screen, with the words, “An error occurred, please try again later.”

Others are reporting that the video simply remains settled on a black display, with the loading circle endlessly turning in the middle. On top of that, some users are complaining that while the video fails to load, the YouTube page will go completely unresponsive as well, forcing the user to close the tab/page altogether.

Many users have pointed out that video playback worked on November 17, and leading all the way up to today, so it has led many to believe that the error is on YouTube’s end, and not inherently tied to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1.

As of this article, iApplestuffs users has confirmed the error in its own testing, being able to recreate every single aforementioned error in every attempt. Videos do seem to start playing if the page is reloaded, but that only seems to work if the page does not go completely unresponsive beforehand.
