Apple may open Worlds Largest Apple store in Dubai

Last week Apple had posted a series of job listings on its website for retail store positions in the United Arab Emirates, sparking off speculations that the iPhone maker could be planning to open its first Apple Store in the Middle East.

Middle East based website EDGARDaily now reports that Apple is planning to open an Apple Store in Dubai’s Mall of Emirates, and it will be the world’s largest Apple store.

EDGARDaily reports:

Our undisclosed source said that the store – which will be the biggest Apple has ever built – was originally planned to replace the current cinema complex. The timing of the recent job adverts suggest the store could have a planned opening for the first quarter of 2015.

Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates features more than 560 international brands, 700+ stores,11 anchor stores with a total gross leasable area of 2.4 million square meters. Ski Dubai, Middle East’s first indoor ski resort and snow park is also a part of the Mall of the Emirates.

Earlier this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook visited the United Arab Emirates and reportedly met with prime minister Shaikh Mohammed and posed for pictures with fans. At that time, it was speculated that Apple was planning to launch its biggest retail store in Abu Dhabi.

Dubai has a reputation for doing everything bigger, and brasher, so it would be quite apt for Apple to open its largest retail store in Dubai. For instance, the Burj Al Khalifa is the world’s tallest building; the Dubai Mall is the largest mall based on total area, and the Al Maktoum International Airport is expected to become the world’s largest airport when it is completed in 2027.

According to Wikipedia, the largest Apple Store in the world is currently in Madrid. There have also been rumors that the company is working with Walt Disney World to create the world’s largest Apple Store, which is expected to be completed in 2016.

Based on the hiring schedule, Apple could open the retail store in Dubai in February 2015.
